Automaker Stellantis unveils plans to expand vehicle production in the U.S. after discussions with former President Donald Trump.
Stellantis, the multinational automotive company, has announced new plans to increase vehicle production in the United States.
This development follows a meeting between former U.S. President
Donald Trump and John Elkann, Chairman of Stellantis, which was reported by CNN after reviewing an internal company email sent to employees.
According to the email, Elkann emphasized to Trump the company’s commitment to its long-standing manufacturing heritage in the U.S. and its intention to further strengthen its manufacturing footprint in the country, thereby providing stability to its American workforce.
The company has pledged to produce a new series of mid-size pickup trucks in Belvidere, Illinois.
The Belvidere plant, which had been temporarily closed, has reopened due to a new agreement with the United Auto Workers union.
This arrangement is expected to bring back over 1,500 workers, as indicated in the internal correspondence.
Additionally, Stellantis has announced plans to manufacture the next generation of Dodge Durango SUVs at its Detroit assembly complex.
The company also intends to invest in the production of Jeep Wrangler and Jeep Gladiator models at the Toledo assembly plant, along with further investments in its facility in Kokomo, Indiana.
These developments highlight Stellantis's ongoing efforts to strengthen its presence in the United States through strategic investments in manufacturing and workforce expansion.
