Transport Disruptions Expected in Italy Due to Upcoming Strikes

A series of strikes are set to impact air and rail travel in the lead-up to Easter, affecting EasyJet and Trenitalia services.
Transportation services in Italy are anticipated to face significant disruptions in the week leading up to Easter, particularly affecting air travel and rail services.

On April 9, EasyJet flight attendants are scheduled to strike for four hours from 10:30 AM to 2:30 PM. This strike was called by the unions Filt-Cgil, Fit-Cisl, and Uilt, who express concerns regarding increasingly burdensome work schedules and tight rotations that adversely affect both the well-being of crew members and the quality of service provided to passengers.

The unions highlighted the risk of delays and cancellations, especially in inclement weather or during high traffic periods.

Additionally, they criticize the company's decision to outsource key scheduling functions, which has led to disorganization and increased operational fatigue among crew.

The unions have called on EasyJet to re-establish dialogue akin to prior interactions to foster a more constructive working environment.

Further disruptions in air transport are expected as Cub Trasporti has announced a concurrent strike for the same time period on April 11, affecting bus drivers at Linate and Malpensa airports.

Furthermore, Filt, Fit, and Uilt have declared an eight-hour strike (from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM) for airport personnel associated with the Gesap company in Palermo.

Meanwhile, April 11 has been marked as a critical date for train travel due to a general strike organized by the Si Cobas union, beginning at 9:00 PM on April 10 and lasting until 8:59 PM on April 11. This strike is expected to impact railway staff extensively.

On the same day, the Usb Lavoro privato union has also planned a strike affecting maintenance personnel and train service staff, scheduled from 3:00 AM on April 11 to 2:00 AM on April 12. The broader context of the general strike includes protests against military rearmament plans, the security decree, and demands for contractual salary increases of 300 euros for the upcoming national collective labor agreement.

In response to these disruptions, Trenitalia has assured that long-distance trains listed on their website will continue to operate during the strike.

For regional transport, Trenitalia has established essential services during peak hours on weekdays and public holidays, specifically from 6:00 AM to 9:00 AM and from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM on weekdays, as well as from 7:00 AM to 10:00 AM and from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM on holidays.
