Intensified Search Efforts for Missing English Mountaineer on the Adamello Massif

Rescue teams in Trentino ramp up search operations for Aziz Ziriat following the tragic discovery of fellow mountaineer Samuel Harris
Search efforts have been renewed for Aziz Ziriat, a 36-year-old British mountaineer, who went missing in the Adamello Massif within the Trentino region of Italy.

The operation, which commenced at dawn, includes the concerted efforts of approximately 80 rescuers from the Alpine Rescue, Speleological Rescue, the Alpine Rescue Financial Guard, and the Fire Brigade.

Currently, around 40 rescuers have been airlifted to the search area, revisiting the same terrain explored the previous day.

The team returns to the high-altitude zone where, tragically, the body of Samuel Harris, 35 years old, was found earlier this week.

The rescuers are tasked with excavating and further probing the snow-covered landscape.

Around midday, the initial team will descend to be replaced by fresh rescue personnel.

In support of these arduous efforts are the Nu.Vol.A. volunteers, who are on-site to provide warm beverages and meals to the working teams.

The last known whereabouts of the mountaineers were traced to MALGA DOSSON, a bivouac where their backpacks were discovered.

It was from this location that they sent their final message on the afternoon of New Year's Day, contacting friends and family before losing contact.

Their silence raised alarms when they did not board their scheduled return flight on January 6, prompting their families to alert authorities.

The First Discovery

The search for the two Britons led to a grim discovery when a trace from a mobile phone belonging to one of the missing climbers helped rescuers locate Samuel Harris, who was found lifeless beneath the snow.

A helicopter initially swept the area between the bivouac and Carè Alto peak, deploying 15 members of the Alpine Rescue to comb through areas considered critical, notably around the Conca Pass, located at approximately 2,600 meters above sea level.

'We were not surprised by their radio silence.

They wanted to disconnect from everything,' explained Rebecca Dimmock, the girlfriend of Aziz Ziriat.

'I know they reached the hut and were drinking red wine; he mentioned it was freezing.

I just hope they are waiting in a bivouac for rescue.'

As teams continue their search in challenging conditions, the community holds its collective breath for a positive outcome in the quest to find Aziz Ziriat.
