Suspected Human Trafficker Arrested in Crotone After Years on the Run

Italian Police Capture Fugitive Convicted by French Courts Tied to Nigerian Organized Crime
A 42-year-old man, identified as A.D., was apprehended by police in Crotone, Italy, after being a fugitive for several years.

French courts have convicted A.D. for his involvement in a criminal organization linked to the so-called Nigerian mafia operating in Marseille.

The network, described by authorities as the SUPREMES VIKING or ARROW BAGA (ROSSI), has been associated with crimes including human trafficking, extortion, and sexual violence.

A.D. was sentenced in absentia to ten years in prison by the French judiciary for his role in facilitating illegal immigration and exploiting vulnerable individuals.

His organization reportedly deceived victims by promising legitimate employment in Europe, only to subject them to coercion and forced prostitution through various means, including threats and violence, and ritualistic juju practices.

Juju, a coercive practice, psychologically binds victims to their traffickers with threats of dire consequences should they fail to comply.

The capture of A.D. occurred during a random street check near the police headquarters in Crotone, where he attempted to blend in with foreign nationals waiting for residency permits.

The police became suspicious when he attempted to quietly leave the line and provided unconvincing reasons to avoid handing over his documents.

Utilizing the AFIS, the European database for individuals with criminal records and pending legal issues, the police confirmed A.D.'s identity and the outstanding European arrest warrant issued post-sentencing.

The AFIS database, despite criticisms regarding its handling of non-EU citizens' data and alleged inefficiencies with recognizing individuals with darker skin tones, accurately identified A.D., leading to his arrest without resistance.

He was subsequently detained and transferred to a prison in Catanzaro.

As of now, A.D. has not been formally interrogated, with procedural preparations for his extradition to France underway.

The Italian authorities are investigating his motives for being in Crotone, while coordination with French authorities is expected to clarify the next steps regarding his extradition.
